Outdoor Environments

Outdoor
Flooring

Outdoor-use classification for flooring products and solutions intended for exposed sports, playground, fitness and recreation environments.

Outdoor Considerations

Key factors that determine which product is right for your outdoor project. Performance claims must always be verified against product-specific test reports.

Exposure & Climate Conditions

Outdoor flooring is subject to continuous UV radiation, rain, temperature cycling, and freeze-thaw stress. Product selection must account for the specific climate zone of the installation site. Claims about UV resistance and weathering should be verified against actual test data for the specific product reference.

Water & Drainage Management

Standing water accelerates delamination, promotes mould, and creates slip hazards. Outdoor floors must either drain through the surface (perforated/open-grid PP tiles) or shed water via surface slope. Confirm that the subbase and site drainage design are compatible with the flooring drainage method.

Subbase & Subfloor Requirements

Outdoor subbase (concrete, asphalt, or compacted aggregate) must be structurally stable, properly sloped for drainage, and free of cracking or heave. Subbase quality directly affects the flatness, stability, and service life of the flooring above it. Subbase preparation is outside the scope of flooring supply.

Thermal Movement & Expansion

Outdoor temperatures can swing 40-60 °C between seasons and between night and peak sun. PVC and PP materials expand and contract with temperature. Installation must include adequate expansion gaps at perimeter edges and between panels. Insufficient allowance leads to buckling, joint failure, or surface distortion.

Weather & UV Claims -- Verification Boundary

Weather resistance, UV stability, and colour-fastness claims must be backed by specific test reports (e.g. accelerated weathering, xenon-arc testing) for the exact product reference. General marketing claims are not a substitute for test data. Ask for the applicable test report and confirm it covers your product code, colour, and thickness.

Installation & Anchoring

Outdoor installation methods differ from indoor: PP tiles may require perimeter anchoring or border profiles; PVC rolls need UV-stable adhesives and sealed waterproof backing. Wind uplift, foot-edge traffic, and cleaning pressure-washing must all be considered in the installation design.

Selection Guide

Answer these questions before specifying a product for a outdoor environment. They help us give you an accurate recommendation the first time.

01

What is the climate zone of the installation site?

Tropical, arid, temperate, or sub-zero climates each impose different demands on UV stability, thermal cycling tolerance, and drainage. Share the country/city so we can confirm product suitability.

02

What is the drainage design for the site?

Confirm whether the subbase is sloped for surface run-off or whether the flooring itself must drain through its structure. PP tiles with open-grid bases require a permeable or sloped subbase.

03

What sport or activity is the court for?

Outdoor basketball, tennis, pickleball, and multi-sport courts have different surface texture, ball rebound, and line-marking requirements. Confirm primary sport before selecting.

04

What are the subbase conditions?

Concrete, asphalt, or compacted aggregate each require different product compatibility and installation methods. Share subbase type and condition for a precise recommendation.

05

What UV and weather test data is required?

If the project requires documented UV or weather resistance, we will verify which products have applicable test reports. Confirm required test standard and acceptable test age.

06

What is the project timeline and quantity?

Outdoor products may have different stock and lead time profiles from indoor products. Share your project area, deadline, and destination port early to confirm availability.
